332 Hubbard, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814
Fort Sherman Chapel is a historical building that played a pretty pivotal part in Coeur d’Alene’s story. The church dates back to 1880, when it was built by the United States Army. While it served as the town’s religious epicenter, it also offered so many additional uses. It became the schoolhouse, the library, and the city meeting house. In 1900, the building was abandoned and then placed up for auction five years later. At this time, it was bought by developers. Different congregations used the chapel before it faced preservation efforts in 1934. The church was donated to the Museum of North Idaho in 1984. Today, it offers a legendary place where you can start the next chapter of your love story.
Fort Sherman Chapel is primarily used as a ceremony space for your wedding. They do not offer get-ready rooms, so you will need to rent a nearby hotel or plan this portion of your day at home. The exterior of the chapel is painted a bright red with arched windows and white accents. Stairs lead up to the double French doors, giving you the perfect opportunity for your grand entrance. Inside, the walls are white with dark wooden accents created in the Gothic revival style. Antique lights hang from the wooden cathedral ceiling.
As you exchange vows, you will stand on the small stage in front of the cross icon on the wall. Your guests will be seated on wooden pews outfitted with gray pads so they can stay comfortable. The chapel will host up to 100 guests. You can speak to the museum about hosting your reception on the grass surrounding the building.
With Fort Sherman Chapel, there are a few key spots you will want to use for your pictures. The stairs leading into the building are ideal for couple portraits. With this spot, you will have the best way to show off the venue! I would also suggest walking around the yard surrounding the building. Out here, you will be able to find open fields and towering pine trees.
The Fort Sherman Chapel Museum offers hourly rentals of the chapel for a minimum of 4 hours. For your rehearsal, you will be able to rent out the chapel for a weekday night prior to your event.
